Grumpy and tired

April 30th, 2009

I don’t know if it’s all this rain business or my transition from days off to work, but I’m just grumpy today.

Also to top it off, I picked up my glasses today and the frames, which I still think are cute, but the lenses look like coke bottles. And to be fair I am nearly legal blind, but the kind people at the last eye doctor I went to made me a pair of glasses that looked pretty normal. So, ugh. I hate them. I wore them into the post office and felt so insecure I took them right off afterward. I told the people at the eye doctor I was not happy with the lens thickness and we looked around at other frames to try with my lenses. They say rounder ones would help. Where was this information when I picked them out in the first place? I mean, now that they say that I do remember someone telling me that 4 years ago, but come on, I thought by now they’d have some space-age technology that would make my lenses practically non-existent. Anyway, I’m going to find my old glasses and take my new glasses tomorrow back to the eye doctor and say “Help!!”

  • We went to the zoo today despite the cold temperature and the drizzling rain – and had a really good time. It was nice and quiet and we were dressed warm and then I let Ella pick out one thing at the gift shop. She picked out a bag of rocks, and has been playing with them all day. It’s so cute. She almost chose a bracelet, but then she noticed the rocks. I think it’s cool that’s she’s a girl that appreciates bracelets and rocks.
  • I found out my SIL is expecting her third child. This is my SIL on my husband’s side. My brother’s wife is also pregnant. When both babies are born Ella will have 7 cousins on my husband’s side and 4 on my side. That’s a lot, right? 11 cousins, and counting. Pretty cool. Congrats Elizabeth!
  • I went to the Vera Bradley outlet sale today. I had never gone before, and I thought it was really fun. A giant room filled with all types of bags and purses – that’s pretty irresistible in my book. I just picked out a few cosmetic bags. And now I want to travel somewhere, just so I can use them.
  • Speaking of traveling, I actually have been dying to get away (before those bags even.) Not that I have anything I want to get away from – I just love to travel and be somewhere new. I was trying to talk hubby into a few days in Chicago, but then a friend told me what a great time they had in Nashville, Indiana – in Brown County and now we’re thinking about that.
  • I just read Tori Spelling’s second book Mommywood. Her books are so entertaining, it only took me a few days.
  • Ella’s doing really well in her bed. She has been going to sleep by herself in it. Is it wrong that I tell her sometimes I need to do some work when I leave her? I just want a few hours to myself at night.
  • I just realized it’s been entirely too long since I vacuumed. That shaggy carpet lets me get away with it!
  • Today I asked Ella what she dreamed about last night – she said “horsies and cake.”
  • I’m going to go watch Vicki Christina Barcelona while Ella’s sleeping. I better get to it!

The Flight of the Conchords concert was so good. We were cracking up at a good portion of the show. If you like the show and it comes anywhere near you – go to it. This was actually better than the show. Also, they opened with comedian Eugene Mirman, who has bit role on the show (elevator guy) and he also was hilarious.

So, yeah, I had no problem staying awake for the 11 p.m. show. I was pretty beat though when we went for drinks after that! But I stuck it out.

Detroit was cool though. Fox Theatre, where the show was, is beautiful. Luckily Steve’s cousin and girlfriend hooked us up with a place to stay, took us for sushi and drinks and drove us around. Nice!

Anyway, it’s Monday naptime and I’m tired. Ella got up at 6:30. Doesn’t she know we can sleep as late as we want? And we’ve already been to the new Parkview North family park (which is awesome, by the way) and met some friends at Starbucks.

Now it’s naptime, and I think I need a little rest too. I’m loving this outside weather, but I think it’s making me extra tired …

I’m a party animal

This may be the longest Friday ever. Maybe it’s because I could barely sleep after I woke up at 5:30. Or that I ran a bunch of errands before coming to work at 10. Or maybe I’m just excited to go se Flight of the Conchords tonight in Detroit! If you’ve never heard of them, they’re a duo from New Zealand and they have a show on HBO which is part sitcom and part videos, and it’s really funny. Take a look at a clip of them here.

And get this, the show doesn’t start until 11 p.m. I hope I can stay awake for it!
