New glasses

April 23rd, 2009

Today I hopped over to my eye doctor’s office and picked out a new pair of glasses.

Just the other day I opened up my glasses case (which was on the floor in the bedroom mysteriously) and found them broken, cracked in half right between the two lenses.

Later I asked my top suspect if she had broken my glasses. It went like this “Ella, did you break mommy’s glasses?” “Nope,” she said. “Do you know who did?” I asked. “Daddy,” she responded.

Hmmm. Not likely.

Anyway, I picked out some new frames today. I was really hoping to find some cute cat-eye Lisa Loeb-esque glasses, but just didn’t see exactly what I had envisioned. So I picked out something in that realm, but then at the last minute an employee helping me handed me a funky little pair by Candies.

They have a little diamond on the side and a little hole cutout. And circles on the sides. Sounds wierd doesn’t it? The ones I almost got were really cute, but they seemed too safe and boring. I wanted something a little funky!

Well, we’ll see soon if I made the right choice. I’ll just be sure to put them out of reach from certain little people.

Do we live in Seattle?

April 21st, 2009

I don’t know where global warming is happening but it is not here. Actually, I take that back because each week it is really nice out on the two days I am in an office all day, and it rains the rest of the week.

This is symbolic for my whole life right now actually. Everything I do goes all wrong. It’s not major stuff but it’s so annoying. I tried to hang up a bulletin board yesterday and once I finally got the nails just right everytime I would go to hang it I would accidentally push the nails in the wall too far, leaving nothing for the holes to catch on. So I finally got it just right and about an hour later I heard something crashing. Guess what that was? Today I decided I should have used screws – those wouldn’t accidentally get pushed in. But for the love of mankind I could not get everything lined up right. I even measured. Then I realized smaller screws would be better. But guess what – now they keep getting pushed in because the holes made by the previous screws are too big. I could go on about this dilemma forever but let’s just say the stupid bulletin board is up, but there is about 7 holes in the wall.

After that I tried to assembled the matte, frame and picture of Ella I wanetd to hang. But the matte is too thick for the back of the frame to go on. I’m telling you, this is how everything has been lately.

I’m really hoping there is truly balance in the world and it means something good is going to come my way.

I was very proud of myself for going on my run today though. With all that and cramps I easily could have spent Ella’s naptime lost in bad realty TV and magazines.

But nope, did my run. I even got caught in the rain. I was worried about my iPod though, so I stopped at home, dropped it off and continued in the rain. That’s dedication don’t you think?

By the way I followed my friend’s Dawn’s advice on buying a cute new running outfit and I think it helped to bring me out of my funk. I think that might be a good reward for when I finish my 5k too! Also, I felt like my last couple runs were easier – still very challenging – but better, than the really discouraging one I posted about. I kinda forgot that running is like everything else, somedays you just have bad runs. Somedays it’s just hard and I just want to get through it. But it’s better on other days. Aaah. Shoot I hope that’s not my good thing I have coming. I want something better than that. Ha!

Good day and great photos

April 15th, 2009

Today we had a really fun day. We picked up our photos from Sears – and they are great. We went out on a limb this year and didn’t go to our beloved Picture People in effort to cut back on spending a little. And it was between 1/3 to 1/2 the price. But I’m not dissing Picture People – they cut your photos, frame them, give them to you on the same day … they are awesome. Anyway, we’re very happy with what we got. Part of it may just be that we’re smarter at buying the photos now. We went in with a complete list of who needs what sizes and we ignored all sales tactics aimed at getting us to purchase big packages and collages and “enhancements” and we just ordered what we needed.

Then Ella got to ride her favorite “animal ride” (carousal) at the mall – which she asked about starting at the moment we pulled into the parking lot.

Afterward we picked up my sister and had lunch with her, very fun. And we got to meet my sister’s BFF at work. Nice to meet you Stacy! Your running advice was inspiring. I have lots of running questions to ask you.

So we had very good time with Sara. And we loved the VIP treatment she got us at Chic Fil A. It’s good to know people.

Also, I got Sara the new Tori Spelling book for her birthday – so book club members, I hope it gets put into circulation. Although she may accuse you of not returning it after you clearly have.

Here are some photos we picked up today.

I’ve actually had to hide this dress from her because she wants to wear it everyday. Can you blame her?

I loved this one especially.

Is it all relative?

April 14th, 2009

Today I’m about at the halfway point of the couch to 5k running program. If you don’t know what that is, check out here … Basically it’s a program to get you from not running at all to running a 5k in 8 weeks.

So anyway, today I warmed up with a 5-minute walk then did the week 4 training — ran 3 minutes, walked 1.5, ran 5, walked 2.5 then repeat.

And it was hard. I feel like such a whimp. I felt like the last three weeks were very manageable, but suddenly I’m running 16 minutes, and that’s a lot to me. But it’s not even 16 minutes in a row. Am I really that out of shape?

For the most part I just tell myself, it’s all relative. Only compare my success to my last week’s instead of other people. But it’s kinda hard when a 60+ old man is doing laps around me at the gym.

I don’t feel like I’m out of shape. I was actually a little offended by the program’s name — it’s not like I’ve just been sitting around on my couch. I actually do walk a few times a week, I have a toddler and a wii fit.

Sometimes I wonder if you just either have the running gene or you don’t. I remember the dreaded day in highschool gym class when you had to run a mile for some fitness test. I think I even walked some of it then.

Oh well, I know I can do it. I actually did it once before. In California, maybe about 5 years ago. I actually ran 3.1 miles in a 5k race, and I didn’t die. But I did have some children and old people pass me then too.
