Looking for the perfect sitter
Time is FLYING.
It’s been such a crazy week with me working a lot extra and Steve being sick we are having a serious deficit of us time. IE, we need a date. The problem is our one and only babysitter, my mother, lives kinda far and she already does so much for all her grandkids – we really need another fill-in from time to time.
My preschool teacher has offered her 13-year-old daughter, who I’m sure is wonderful like her mom, but geez, 13. This makes me nervous with the baby. I’m tempted to become a member of sittercity.com where you find babysitters in your area with all kinds of wonderful resumes, but some of them are pretty high-priced (up to $20 per hour!). Also, you have to trust a complete stranger. Anyway, has anyone tried this?
I just wish I had a wonderful 21-year-old neighbor in her first year of child development studies (this way she would be around for four years), who doesn’t like to go out much or charge very high rates? Is that too much to ask?

I ran around our block, which is .5 miles, 6 times this morning – for a total of 3 miles! Yay. Now I feel confident I will not die during the 5k on Sunday. It’s a little over 3 miles, but what’s a few more minutes, right? Also, I didn’t have anyone handing me a cup of water this morning, and I’m hoping on Sunday there will be some nice little water helpers to keep me going …

Monday morning I ran 2.5 miles and while my feet ached a tiny bit, I’m pretty sure it was still from the crazy zumbathon I did Sunday night.
Anyway, I want to thank my new shoes. The Brooks Adrenaline GTS 100. No, I’m not getting any freebies. But seriously, so light and comfortable. And here’s what else I got out of my trip to a real running shoe store where they actually put you on a treadmill and watch you run …
- One of my feet is a 7.5 and the other is a 7. No wonder I have the hardest time picking a size! (It’s because I have a higher arch in one of them.)
- I overpronate (turn) my foot a little therefore need more control (dense material) under the middle part of my foot. Who knew?
- You should only wear running shoes for about 500 miles, which the clerk pointed out would last me a whole year for the small amount I run. Thanks, wise guy.
Even if I’m last in the 5k, at least I will have cool shoes.

Having one of those weeks where things are really making me mad. But sometimes it’s a good reminder to set some boundaries. Enforcing quiet time today helped tremendously. And reminded me how important that is.
Things did look up though when Ella and Eva and I went on a walk. I drew some pictures of things for Ella to take photos of on our walk, and told Ella it was a scavenger hunt. She said “You surprised me Mom. This is really fun!” She’s awesome.
