So mad!

October 29th, 2010

So, after all my work to run in the 5k, talking my hubby into it, trying hard to get him motivated and healthy as well as myself, what do I get? My iPod stolen.

Yep, left it in hubby’s car after race, which he left unlocked. Also missing, his GPS.

So, where’s the fairness in that?

Probably best to stay away from me today.

What I’m wishing for…

We’re trying hard to stick to a good budget, saving and paying off debt and preparing for the worst. Just trying to be responsible.

Sometimes it’s so hard to send away all our extra money when I would really love some nice things. Oh well, it will be even sweeter when it feels like the right time. But here’s what’s on my wish list:

  • A new couch. Ours is el cheapo. It’s served us well and I always liked the look of it, but you get what you pay for. And the cushions have had much better days. And the stain resistant fabric looks streaked already.
  • A recliner. We have an overstuffed chair which is wonderful to cuddle into for a movie and looks OK if you cover up the faded fabric with blankets but it’s so big and not so nice looking and ugh. It’s time to find a new home for it.
  • A new kitchen table. All I can say is, never buy a kitchen table with grooves in it if you have kids. While I can see tons of little crumbs and bits in those grooves, it is impossible to get them all out.
  • A new coffee table. Stained and chipped all over, it’s getting junky. It would be really nice to have something soft and cushiony too that Eva wouldn’t hurt herself on.
  • Media storage. I really need something to store DVDS and games and photo albums. Bins in the garage are just not cutting it.

OK, now I feel like our stuff is so junky! But you know what, with a 1-year-old and a 4-year-old roaming around, our furniture may just be perfect for right now.

Looking for the perfect sitter

Time is FLYING.

It’s been such a crazy week with me working a lot extra and Steve being sick we are having a serious deficit of us time. IE, we need a date. The problem is our one and only babysitter, my mother, lives kinda far and she already does so much for all her grandkids – we really need another fill-in from time to time.

My preschool teacher has offered her 13-year-old daughter, who I’m sure is wonderful like her mom, but geez, 13. This makes me nervous with the baby. I’m tempted to become a member of sittercity.com where you find babysitters in your area with all kinds of wonderful resumes, but some of them are pretty high-priced (up to $20 per hour!). Also, you have to trust a complete stranger. Anyway, has anyone tried this?

I just wish I had a wonderful 21-year-old neighbor in her first year of child development studies (this way she would be around for four years), who doesn’t like to go out much or charge very high rates? Is that too much to ask?

I did it!

I ran around our block, which is .5 miles, 6 times this morning – for a total of 3 miles! Yay. Now I feel confident I will not die during the 5k on Sunday. It’s a little over 3 miles, but what’s a few more minutes, right? Also, I didn’t have anyone handing me a cup of water this morning, and I’m hoping on Sunday there will be some nice little water helpers to keep me going …
