I won’t say it’s getting better because that will surely jinx it

January 30th, 2010

Two nights ago we were up a bunch – at 2, 4, 6 and 8. Then last night, only ONCE. It was glorious. I feel like a million bucks. I don’t know what it is, but believe me, I’m taking all the advice people are offering up. I’ve got her swaddled up tight like a little burrito. I have a fan running in her room. I’m feeding her every couple hours during the day so she doesn’t sleep too long.

Who knows, maybe it won’t last, but you can bet I’ll be doing all that stuff again today. Cross your fingers …

Yes!

Only up once last night! At 4 a.m, then up for the morning at 8. Awesome.

Torture at the end of torture

January 28th, 2010

Well, there is just no consistency with this baby. She had been sleeping some longer stretches – but last night was another rough one. Up at midnight (Steve went to play poker instead of doing his midnight bottle – it’s good to be him, huh?), up at 2, up from 3:30 to 5 – then I called Steve in to help me, then I was back up at 7 to feed her. Oh and by the way, I had a tooth pulled in the morning.

I keep thinking about the drive home from the hospital with Eva. Not when we left the first time – but after the second miserable stay in which she was in an incubator for three days, starting on Christmas. It was really snowing and the roads were horrible. So of course we were so tense with our fragile 5-day-old in the back. We nervously drove in silence for a while and finally Steve broke out with a homemade tune, singing “This is like torture … at the end of torture.” It was funny because I was really thinking the same thing.

So yes, I’m sorry that I may complain a lot anymore, but seriously, getting a tooth pulled then regressing to an all night feeding session? Stinks. I’m hoping it’s another growth spurt. I’m not even going to put more mental power into figuring out what we’re doing wrong and trying to analyze the pattern lately. I’m too tired.

The good news is I actually took both girls to Target with me today. And it went well. I bribed Ella with some new princess sunglasses and a toy in the $1 bins. I think those $1 bins may just be the key to making it through the store. And getting out of the house and having a little retail therapy was just what I needed. And a new swiffer wet jet, kitchen towels and sunglasses even make me feel a little better that I lost a few hours of sleep for my husband’s poker game. I guess we all have our vices.

Getting back to routines

January 25th, 2010

We had a great day at my mom’s house Sunday. And Colts made it to the Superbowl. Yay! Not that I watched any of the game, but you know, I support them completely in my mind.

It’s so great hanging out at my mom’s. Ella is so happy because she has a blast with her cousins. And Eva gets all kinds of love. And the food is awesome. It’s like being on vacation over there.

I stopped by a fitness club/raquetball club yesterday to get a class schedule. I thought it would be really good for me to go to an exercise class one night a week. But now that I’ve seen the place, I really want to join. It’s got a whole different vibe from the Y. I guess I didn’t really realize there are gyms that aren’t bright and busy and crowded with loud music and that meat market type feel. This felt like a spa almost. And all the equipment is new. Every cardio machine has it’s own TV. I’m really excited. And there is a Wednesday night class I should be able to make. I also plan to go once on the weekend. Other than that I’m not sure I can commit to more, but twice a week is a good start – then I can do somethings at home. I’m really excited to get back in prepregnancy shape. And hopefully better. So far I’m down 25 pounds – so 15 more to go.

Anyway, I also realized today my back-to-work day is Feb. 18. That is in three weeks! I had thought it would be a week later, but I forgot that I had Eva a week early. But I’m OK with it – I’m only working 2 days a week, so I’ll still be able to spend a lot of time with the kids. THE KIDS – still weird to say. But boy, time is flying. She’s already 5 weeks tomorrow. And she’s starting to make little cooing, cute baby noises. I love that.

OK, that’s enough for now. It’s time to relax!
