Sick and tired, bla, bla, bla

January 8th, 2009

Oh man am I having trouble waking up this week. Maybe it’s the holiday exhaustion catching up with me. Or the fact that I worked the late shift Saturday night and then started staying up too late. Or maybe it’s whatever illness I have that has caused my throat to be swollen with white bumps. That’s not good, is it?

Whatever the case, it’s end of the week. Busy, busy time at work. So, I’m going to take some medicine and drink coffee and power through it. I know that doctors and my mom would probably say that’s a bad idea. But that’s just reality and the bad timing that is my life. My sister recently noticed also that the weather is only terrible when I have to drive 20 miles to work. She is so right. Oh well, Poor me, right?

This weekend should be fun with Ella’s first swim lesson at the Y, to be followed up by Ella’s first haircut! Hmmm … perhaps some before and after shots would be a good blog post. So yes, I promise something more fun than complaints about being sick and tired for next time.

Little artist

January 7th, 2009

Ella and watercolored for awhile last night and she gets so into it. I really can’t think of something else that she seems so focused on for so long. Maybe she will be an artist. But time came to put it all away and she cried and cried. So, I said “OK.” Paint some more. I don’t know why I was trying to hurry her anyway. We had a whole hour before bedtime. Then in like five minutes she stood up on her chair and said “Done mommy.” I guess she just was not quite finished with her masterpiece just yet.

Kicking resolution butt: A moment for bragging

January 7th, 2009

Now I’m taking this with a grain of salt but last night my sweet little Wii Fit told me I’ve lost 4 pounds and my BMI has gone down another point. I know that weight can fluctuate pounds in justy one day and gee, wasn’t it the day before that it told me I was down 2 pounds? But whatever. The point is, I’m doing well. I’m tracking my diet online and I have been exercising everyday. I almost didn’t put in my 30 minutes yesterday but then those people on Biggest Loser inspired me and I did step aerobics for 10 more minutes. Actually, it’s a bit strange that I’ve lost that much weight in just about a week and 1/2. Isn’t it? I guess that’s not a problem I should complain about, huh?

And while we’re on the resolution topic, I began buying accessories for Ella’s bathroom this weekend and we had carpet people come out to measure for new carpet in the living room. Progress! I also bought a very cute new Fossil purse and bilfold this weekend with a Christmas giftcard and stopped carrying my huge diaperbag. OK, so that wasn’t really a resolution, but I’m so glad.

Perfect excuse for new clothes

January 6th, 2009

Ella was so funny this weekend. She said her first big sentence, which was “We have sausage. Yay!” And later she said “Daddy’s funny.” She’s really catching on to the finer points in life isn’t she?

Yesterday we went to Wal-mart, storytime and out to lunch with our neighbor friends. It was a nice time and it’s cool as they get older to see them interact. Ella now refers to the twins by name – but she she does mix them up quite a bit, although they don’t really look anything alike!

My diet is going well. Although the first several days I was HUNGRY. The online food diary I’m using – www.myfooddiary.com – tells me I can only consume about 1200 calories a day to lose a  1/2 pound per week! This seems like a cruel joke to me. Seriously, that seems like a very low calorie count. And my Wii fit scale tells me I’ve already lost 3 pounds since just after Christmas. This makes me wonder if that calorie count is off for some reason. Perhaps they’re not factoring in the calories burnt with having a two-year-old. Nowhere in their “activitiy list” does it say “lifting a 30-pound human being repetitively” or “sprinting to catch a falling cup of milk.” These things have to burn some calories right?

The last two days I put in my 30 minutes on the Wii fit too. And I have the sore muscles to prove it. I mean it hurts to move basically. I did running and boxing and hula hooping and stretching and crunches. Whew. It’s kinda addicting because you want to get more “fit credits” and you want to get better scores. Pretty good motivation.

I think for extra motivation I’m going to reward myself. Here’s my goal: When I lose six pounds, I’ll get myself a new workout outfit.
