Good night
We had a fun night last night making homemade pizza then getting some dinner around for tonight. I never feel like cooking on Friday nights. So I did my mom’s awesome and simple ham and bean recipe, which is this:
- Big jar of northern beans
- can of green chiles
- cubed ham
- sauteed onions
And you warm it all in a crockpot and it’s ready. Also, I made some cornbread muffins (also with green chiles mixed in) to go with it. My mom has taught me that green chiles and salsa are good in lots of dishes.
We also had a photoshoot last night. Ella had a lot of fun taking pictures. Then I had her pose for a bunch. Little does she know she’s getting her own Diego digital camera for Christmas. She’s going to love it!
Here is Ella’s modeling debut. (I’ll spare you mine.)
And Steve has a lot of work lately … so this is where you can usually find him.

I’m just not photogenic. Not at all. Ask my husband. If you ever watch My Name is Earl, I’m a lot like Earl, who closes his eyes in every photo. Also, I’m in the “stretch pants” phase of my pregnancy. I’m out for comfort, not for looking good. That being said. Here’s a belly pic last week – this is at about 28 weeks along.

So far, Ella has worn her leopard costume once in Ludington at her grandparents’ campground’s harvest festival, once at her other grandma’s work party, at her cousin Grant’s birthday party this weekend, and yesterday to Scott’s grocery store. She’s loving life as a leopard.

I feel like somebody flipped a switch and turned my easy, energetic second trimester self into a huge, achy, sickly pregnant lady. Seriously. Suddenly I feel nautious and so tired. It’s a lot like the first trimester. And to top it off my organs and bladder are feeling the pain of losing their needed space.
OK, I just had to complain a little. I know I’m lucky to even be having this baby but I just felt like I needed to vent for a minute.
So, I woke up this morning around 4:30, 5? I don’t know. But I’ve spent a lot of time since them in the bathroom. I’m really hoping it’s not the flu. And wouldn’t you know it’s on one of my busiest days at work?
This didn’t make me very optimistic about the day ahead, but I have to say, things are looking up. Here’s what’s aspired since:
1. Ella got up at 6:20 and has just been sweet and amusing. She begged me to let her watch Return of the Jedi and being exhausted I said “yes!”. Then I slept with one-eye open while she watched and asked me all about Ewoks and storm troopers and things I have no idea about.
2. I picked up some jeans at my new favorite seamstress who is less than 1/2 mile from my house and who is Greek and really sweet and charges reasonable prices and loves to chat with Ella and has a grandson the same age. The other seamstresses I’ve been to have either had extremely high prices or worked in a shop that reeked of body odor. So I’m pretty happy about this find.
3. I got a very good parking space at work. And it was raining.
4. The company owner was here when I arrived and told me what a good job I was doing and how much he appreciated it. That’s nice to hear.
5. I’m slowly starting to feel better. Not so nautious.
6. My jeans that I had to buy in a bigger size than usual are actually quite big on me. I think I could have bought a smaller size. Yay!
So that’s it. Small things, but quite a few. Maybe someone flipped that switch back already.
