Random thoughts Monday

October 11th, 2010

I just ran 2 miles and am enjoying a little time before the kids get up. As hard as it is to get out of bed at 6:15 a.m. to go exercise, man it is worth it for the energy and the extra time I have for myself. The 5k I’m doing is in less than 2 weeks. I think I’ll be ready.

Eva has begun a trend of not wanting to go to bed at night. It is so frustrating. She’s been staying up until 10 on some nights. I so want this time of the night to have to sit still for more than 10 minutes straight.

It’s Monday morning now and I really like how preschool gives us a reason to get going for the week and I get all grocery shopping and errands done while Ella’s there. Having just one kid to take on errands seem so easy!

My feet hurt so bad lately. And I’m realizing they’ve always kinda hurt at the end of the day. Maybe now more so that I’m running, but man they ache. I dream of those little foot soaker baths at nail salons every night. I wonder if I need better shoes. But looking for more supportive shoes sounds kinda depressing!

Well I hear my late night owl awakening …

Very relaxing, besides the fire, bugs and screaming kids

October 8th, 2010

The night before last Steve and I settled onto our couch for that blissful little span of night where the kids are fast asleep and we are finally done with our to-do lists for the day. I heated some water on the stove for a nice cup of hot tea to drink while watching our favorite shows. Shortly after sitting down with me tea, I smelled something. I quickly looked to the kitchen and sure enough I saw one our oven mitts on the stove, and on fire. I yelled some choice words, did a high jump over an ottoman before throwing the oven mitt in the sink.

I guess after I had moved my teapot from the burner I had thrown the oven mitt on top of it. Oops. And the oven mitt was made of a very nice heat-resistant rubber, which stunk the house up horribly.

So, Steve sprang to action opening all the windows, even opening up our doors and propping a big fan on our kitchen counter. The fumes were bad.

Finally we settled back down for relaxation time. After some time though I noticed some little bugs swarming around me and as I said aloud “I think we have bugs in here,” I looked to the wall next to me and noticed the wall was COVERED with little bugs. Maybe little flies. I don’t know. But I did the same high jump I did earlier and exited the area VERY quickly. Again Steve got on it with a vacuum cleaner and we laughed about how leaving the doors open created a worse problem than we had to begin with. And they were not gone with one quick cleanup. The whole next hour we were sucking up these bugs with the vacuum.

So, on to the next night. We thought surely our kids would go to bed at their usual 8 or 8:30. Eva was so tired she was kinda cranky all night and she’s teething again. Ella was so hyper I figured she would crash too. Nope. Ella came downstairs several times. She had many excuses: “I falled out of bed!” “Just 5 more minutes!” I can’t sleep!” This happened over and over and over again.

And we didn’t know what Eva’s problem was. She kept refusing a bottle. Didn’t really want to play or be held. She was a fussy baby. Finally she fell asleep in my arms around 10.

So, please God, if you are reading my blog (I can hope can’t I?) please let my kids fall asleep at 8 tonight. I mean after all the big wordly problems of course. I don’t want to be selfish. I just want two hours. And I promise I will not make hot tea.

Highlights of the week

October 7th, 2010

I’m dragging this week! It all started with my reunion and staying up late and now I’ve missed a couple runs and am totally a tired mess this week. Zumba helped last night.

Anyway, Ella had a big week with school. She had her first school field trip – to a very nice farm where we went on a hayride, looked at animals, learned about an apple press and learned a little about corn, soybeans, wheat and oats. Of course it wasn’t really new to her. I imagine some of these kids don’t see tractors all that much or see soybeans growing in a field, but we’re lucky to spend a lot of time at grandma and grandpa’s farm.

Ella also had lunch bunch. Her class can stay an hour later a few times a month to have lunch with each other. So, we got out her Cinderella lunchbox and made her some mini turkey sandwiches – at her request. And she seemed to love it.

The weather was also beautiful this week so we spent one afternoon at the park and loved it.

So that’s about it. It’s different with preschool. I feel like we don’t have too much time anymore with that and Eva’s naps.

Look at those jeggings and ballet shoes. How cute are those?

Ella pretends to sell Eva lemonade at a little play booth at the park.

I’m actually in a photo … my friend April took one of us on Ella’s field trip.

9 months

October 1st, 2010

Eva had her 9 month appointment this week and she’s still a tiny girl. At 17 pounds she’s in the 20th percentile for weight (80 percent of babies her age are bigger). And she’s only in 8 percent for height. No worries though. They say that’s just who she is. She has always been very petite. And she’s very active. I don’t think it will be long before she can walk …
