The terrible fours
Oh my gosh, we’ve had some trying moments this week. We’ve all (except Steve somehow) been sick this week AGAIN. Chest congestion/cold and Ella has an ear infection.
Eva’s now at the whiny, uncomfortable stage and Ella has been a handful this week. If I say no to something, she asks and asks and asks and asks and begs and argues and cries. And I am not giving in.
Last night it was smarties. I took her to the gym with me and the sitter there gave the kids each a pack for cleaning up so well. Which is fine. But when Ella asked me if she could eat them as we were leaving, she didn’t like my response. I said she could have half now and half after dinner. Generous, I thought!
But oh, she cried and yelled and would hardly walk to the car. I want ALL of them! ALL of them! She kept saying. There was no way I was giving her any of them at this point. So this behavior continued at dinner where she complained about everything on her plate and wouldn’t eat a thing. Finally Steve told her if she’s not going to eat, she needs to go to her room. So there she went crying and pouting. Then sleeping. All the way until this morning. Now that was one tired, cranky girl.
Anyway, she was an angel this morning. Guess I need to enforce that she really rests during quiet time. I’m still glad I didn’t give her those smarties though.

They fight like sisters, but they are best friends, no doubt. I think they are having more fun with each other all the time.
Relaxing in daddy’s office.
I’m so proud – they’re flossing!
Ella even wanted Eva to sleep in her bed with her the other night. No way though! There’s no telling what Eva would get into!

In case you forgot, I will soon be lounging around drinking martinis in a swanky Manhattan club. Well, maybe, more likely I will be walking and walking and walking and trying to do a lot of the many cool things the city has to offer.
On our must-do list:
- Museums: the Met, MoMA, and the Guggenheim
- the Empire State Building
- Statue of Libery
- Rockefeller Center
- A boat tour
- Bobby Flay’s Mesa Grill restaurant (the one reservation I have made)
- brunch at Balthazar’s
- a walk around Greenwich Village
- shopping
But this has all made my feet hurt just thinking about it.
And because our trip is soon, I expect it will still be HOT. And since my summer sandals are either ugly and comfortable or cute and not comfortable, I have been on the search for something that would be cute with a dress yet OK for lots of walking.
This is what I came up:
They had very good reviews at Naturalizer, which is known for comfort, but have come along way in looks. Hope they work!

Well besides the fact it’s so hot outside you could fry bacon on the sidewalk, it’s been a pretty great week. Starting with last Friday’s great datenight.
Steve and I started our night at the new winery in LaOtto. 3 miles from our house. Very excited to have something so fun built so close. What a perfect start to a night! Then we went to Wu’s Fine Chinese Dining, a new restaurant in the Fort. And it was DELICIOUS. I highly recommend it. And if that’s not enough we then quickly stopped at a bookstore for a travel guide to New York (BECAUSE WE ARE GOING TO NEW YORK!!!) then on to see Horrible Bosses at the theater. And it was very funny!
So New York … Steve’s work is sending him and when he suggested the idea that I go along I was all like “no, no … we have kids, we have other things to pay for, what about babysitters, he would have to do work … bla bla bla.” But then he sent me a link to fabulous hotel he will be staying at. In Greenwich Village. And then my mom and babysitter both said they are available, and do you remember how much fun I had on my datenight? So, we are going to NEW YORK. Woo hoo. Stay tuned. It will be a few weeks before we go, but I’m sure this won’t be the last you hear about it.
